The Non-Functioning Rural Technology Facility(RTF) in Yillo Klo

The Rural Technology Facility (RTF) built in Somanya, and located on the Somanya-Okwenya road, is rotting away peacefully. This facility is supposed to be functioning but it is not. This RTF is said to be under the Business Advisory Center (BAC) department of the Yilo Klo Municipal assembly. The RTF in the Weed Our team upon getting to the facility spoke to a man (whose name is withheld) confirmed that, the place has not been working. He said that there used to be heavy machinery which is believed to have supported farmers in a kind of post-processing factory but the machines have been stolen sometime back though there may be some left. From a very reliable source from the Yilo Klo Municipal assembly, the BAC department is to be responsible why the place is not functioning. Issues affect people in rural Ghana and it always looks as if we have no one in charge to complain to or share with. For days, weeks, seasons and years the hyacinth weed along the Volta Lake affects the indigenes staying along the Volta Lake. Asuogyamang district hosts Eastern regional voluntary youth camp 2018. This is a part of the National Youth Authority's programs to strengthen and drive volunteerism in young people across the 10 regions of Ghana. The Eastern regional camp hosted by the Asuogyamang district,Atimpoku near Akosombo has seen various districts and municipality youth participate. Addressing the campers in a brief orientation and program description, on the theme, Promoting Voluntarism for national development,  Ms Luyusa the NYA district coordinator of Asuogyamang inspired the youth on community development via service to mother Ghana. Rich  Vision  Ghana  an NGO which is focused on Environmental and Public Health education in Somanya of the Eastern region of Ghana held a Global Climate Action on Rise For Climate Change on September 8 as part of 350.org an NGO. Speaking on the theme  Building a carbon free world via a good farm practices  Mr. Richard Kofi-Boye a Public health specialist and Director of Rich Vision Gh. He spoke about how the grassroots can grab and make use of good farming practices and called on farmers to grow more trees than cutting and desist from inorganic farming activities that ends up in polluting the environment and water bodies. Sharing on the dangers and effects of the climate change, he called for everyday good practices for safer and healthy living. Verdant Global Boti community summer school second week ended so let's look back on what was achieved.The games and other extramural activities were moved to the morning instead of the afternoon with the objective of attracting more kids at 8 o'clock. Indeed the teams which had more members were more likely to win the games. They're organized on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Additionally, creative activities encouraging waste management were added on the Tuesday and Thursday morning. The courses continued as usual from 9am to 12noon except for Friday where an ICT session was organized by one of our partners, Young at Heart Ghana. Additionally, we have planned an awareness event for next week Thursday, 16th August aiming at the entire community as part of the International Youth Day 2018. Week 3 Blog for Osubuɛ Project

Volunteers started this week with much energy, planning of the International youth day celebration. With passion filled on Monday morning, the volunteers walked from Boti to community(Osubuɛ). The Team(Volunteers) later passed by the Chief (Osubuɛ) to Finalize Discussion on some relevant issues. On Special observation by the Volunteers, it was realized some of kids were not really picking up with what's been taught so volunteers made it more Practically adaptable by taking the kids outside the classroom to the Surrounding. A visit was also made later that day to Francis, one of the in-community volunteers  of who was ill. Class got interesting the next day when one of the partner Organizations arrived in the community and was picked up by one of the Volunteers to the School.The kids were engaged in a gaming activity. Verdant Global Boti Community Project

For Week 2, Verdant Global commenced it’s kids engagement via the Summer project at Boti community in the Eastern region of Ghana, on Monday 30th of July, 2018. The Summer program was initiated to impact Primary school and Junior High school students with necessary knowledge in Science, Literacy, and Numeracy through fun games and creative Arts; and educate them on Climate change and global warming through recycling of plastic waste products to produce useful items for the community. The children at the Summer program were from Boti R/C Primary school and Boti R/C Junior High school. In the first week, the volunteers briefed the children on the objectives of the Summer project and grouped them into teams to encourage healthy competition and working together. They also led the teams to select team names and battle cries / slogans as well as engage in various educational games and activities, carrying out various tasks during the Summer program.
