The Non-Functioning Rural Technology Facility(RTF) in Yillo Klo

The Rural Technology Facility (RTF) built in Somanya, and located on the Somanya-Okwenya road, is rotting away peacefully. This facility is supposed to be functioning but it is not. This RTF is said to be under the Business Advisory Center (BAC) department of the Yilo Klo Municipal assembly.

Our team upon getting to the facility spoke to a man (whose name is withheld) confirmed that, the place has not been working. He said that there used to be heavy machinery which is believed to have supported farmers in a kind of post-processing factory but the machines have been stolen sometime back though there may be some left. From a very reliable source from the Yilo Klo Municipal assembly, the BAC department is to be responsible why the place is not functioning.

We are questioning the leadership of the Yilo Klo Municipality why isn’t the facility functioning, why can’t it be put to use on a small-scale project that would be serving the purpose for which it is built for? It appears also that there are many facilities which are either not maintained or are left under the mercy of theft, personal properties, housing for some reptiles etc.

Bad leadership is affecting development and economic growth in areas such as Klo (Krobo) land where, petty issues that affect livelihoods negatively are left open without being attended to by the authorities. This Rural Technology facility is just one of such facilities going waste and being befriended by weeds, snakes and other poisonous animals.

The Development Geek team in 2019 wants to see more responsibility from the citizenry and leadership. The monitoring and Evaluation department  (M&E) created by the government needs to put checks on issues and projects happening and those that happened that needs to be put to use for the economic growth of Ghana. Keeping eyes on the watch for development!
