Rich Vision Gh Calls for Good Farm Practices in Rural Communities

Rich Vision Ghana an NGO which is focused on Environmental and Public Health education in Somanya of the Eastern region of Ghana held a Global Climate Action on Rise For Climate Change on September 8 as part of 350.org an NGO.


Speaking on the theme Building a carbon free world via a good farm practices Mr. Richard Kofi-Boye a Public health specialist and Director of Rich Vision Gh. He spoke about how the grassroots can grab and make use of good farming practices and called on farmers to grow more trees than cutting and desist from inorganic farming activities that ends up in polluting the environment and water bodies. Sharing on the dangers and effects of the climate change, he called for everyday good practices for safer and healthy living.
The event which was held in Boti a farming community in the Yilo Krobo Municipality, saw the chieves, stakeholders, Basic school pupils, youth and people of Boti and Osuboi communities participate. He called on stakeholders to help champion organic farming and also maintain good sanitation practices.
He spoke about the fact that, government has basic projects as part of the SDGs which when they become more aware, could tap into such opportunities for the benefit of their livelihoods. He emphasized that their communities forms a part of the Worldwide awareness and encouraged them to rise up for climate change.

The program started with a street march by the basic school pupils from the Boti and Osuboi communities. The two communities marched with placards with writings which were communicating messages on climate change and Sanitation. Both communities arrived at the Boti Epicenter which was the center and venue of the event. 

Apart from the presentation, the pupils of Boti Roman Catholic basic school did a role play on Climate change and Sanitation in the Krobo language which made understanding to the audience very easy.  
Mr. Vincent Osim, an agriculturist, development practitioner also elaborated on the role play to the audience and encouraged them to support by using local technology to provide solutions to the "Rise up for Climate change" by avoiding bush burning and other unsafe practices.
The play was applauded by the audience who agreed that, the children had rightly communicated the message about Climate change in the short drama.
Parents present were given the opportunity to ask questions, share their observations contributions and concerns. Some Parents openly aired their views and asked relevant questions on children’s performance and the way forward for their communities.
The event ended with refreshments and exchange of pleasantries. The chief of Osuboi gave the vote of thanks for implementing such a productive initiative in their community and thanked everyone who supported by attending. The event saw over 500 participants. A challenge was thrown to farmers at the end of the event to practice more organic farming since they feed the mass.
