Verdant Global In-community Volunteer program 2018

A team of volunteers from Verdant Global(NGO) are at Boti and Osubuɛ communities in the Eastern region of Ghana to facilitate their annual Rural Summer program for Basic school pupils.
The summer project would feature hands-on practical sessions on ICT, reading / Literacy, Numeracy, Creative Arts, capacity building, Science, team building game sessions amongst others.
The program is scheduled to commence on Monday 30th July, 2018.
The organisation conceived the need to implement the volunteer-led project after a survey was carried out in the rural communities in the Eastern region, indicating that the children were mainly idle during the long School vacation. Unlike children from the urban areas whose parents pay to enroll them in Summer classes where they learn new skills, most Parents and Guardians of rural community children cannot afford to send them to special classes during summer.
In the first week of the project, the team from Verdant Global paid courtesy visits to the community chiefs and elders, local school authorities and worship centres in order to brief them on the summer project and familiarise themselves with the community. They also engaged in publicity for the project and sought for in-community Volunteers to join the team.

The volunteers are looking forward to impact the children with skills necessary in order to thrive in today’s21st century, and educate them on the sustainable development goals, emphasizing climate action and global warming; while building their capacities in a fun environment.
